Big Chardonnay energy, with enough freshness to keep you coming back for another glass. Durbanville Hills’ Collectors Reserve Chardonnay is a full-bodied South African white wine that leans into creamy texture and gentle oak, but still keeps its footing with bright, food-friendly lift.
If you’ve ever wanted a Chardonnay that feels plush without being heavy, this is your lane. It’s the bottle you open when you want something more interesting than “just a white,” but you’re not in the mood for a lecture.
- Appearance: Bright straw-gold, clear and glossy in the glass.
- Nose: Ripe peach and yellow apple up front, with toasted vanilla, a little buttered popcorn, and a hint of lemon zest.
- Palate: Stone fruit and baked apple with a creamy, rounded mid-palate, balanced by a fresh citrus snap that keeps it moving.
- Body: Full-bodied and silky, built for sipping and built for dinner.
- Finish: Medium-long, with lingering toast, soft spice, and a clean, gently zesty close.
Food pairing: Pour this with roast chicken and crispy potatoes, creamy mushroom pasta, or grilled prawns with garlic butter and a squeeze of lemon.
Want a quick mental shortcut? If you like classic oaked California Chardonnay, this gives you that same creamy, toasty satisfaction, but with a brighter, more pulled-together finish that makes it easy to pair with food.
It also plays well outside the dinner table. Bring it to a braai when everyone else shows up with bland white wine, this one actually holds its own next to smoke and char.
Serve it lightly chilled, not ice-cold. You’ll get more of the peach, toast, and that creamy texture that makes this style so addictive.
Fun Fact: Durbanville (just outside Cape Town) is known for cooler coastal breezes, which helps Chardonnay keep its freshness even when the flavours go rich.
