Description

This is Japanese whisky with a sun-soaked twist, born in Okinawa (the old Ryukyu Kingdom), where island air and a different local spirit culture give it its own personality.

  • Nose: Vanilla, toasted oak, caramel, and a tropical hint that leans toward ripe fruit and gentle spice.
  • Taste: Round and layered, with sweet oak, soft toffee, a touch of peppery warmth, and a subtly tropical, rum-adjacent vibe.
  • Finish: Medium length, warming, with lingering vanilla oak and a light spice echo that keeps things interesting.

Why it deserves shelf space, it’s a conversation-starter Japanese whisky that doesn’t feel like it’s trying to copy the usual script. The flavour leans richer and more island-leaning than many classic Japan pours, so you get that familiar whisky comfort, plus a little “where has this been hiding?” curiosity.

It also plays well when you’re in the mood for something with depth but not drama. You get clear, approachable flavours up front, then extra little details show up as you sip, like warm baking spice, toasted sugar, and that coastal, tropical edge.

If you’re building out your Japanese whisky lineup, this one earns its spot because it brings a different regional perspective. Same country, totally different mood. More laid-back. More golden. Still undeniably whisky.

It’s also a great pick for whisky drinkers who like oak and vanilla-driven profiles, but want something with a bit more character than the standard “honey and malt” routine. Pour it, chat about it, then watch someone ask for a second glass.

Fun Fact: “Kujira” means “whale” in Japanese, a nod to Okinawa’s ocean-heavy culture and the islands’ deep connection to the sea.
