Tanqueray Gin Miniature 5cl
AED 11.00
Juniper leads, citrus snaps, and the whole thing behaves beautifully in a G&T. This London Dry gin started life in Bloomsbury, London, and keeps things classic with just four botanicals: juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, and liquorice. If you want a crisp gin that doesn’t get lost under tonic or Campari, this is a very sensible place to start, especially with a wedge of lime and plenty of ice.
Some gins whisper. Tanqueray walks in with juniper first, then brings a clean citrusy lift that makes your tonic suddenly feel like it got its act together. This is classic London Dry gin territory, born from Charles Tanqueray’s 1830s recipe in Bloomsbury, London, and now distilled in Scotland. No cucumber theatrics. No dessert-shop botanicals. Just a crisp, punchy gin that knows exactly what it’s doing.
The big win here is reliability without boredom. A lot of “house gin” choices disappear the second you add tonic, vermouth, or Campari. Tanqueray doesn’t. That bold juniper backbone cuts through, the coriander adds a lemon-pepper brightness, and the liquorice and angelica root keep everything dry, earthy, and properly grown-up. It’s the kind of bottle that reminds you why the G&T became a classic in the first place.
- Nose: Fresh piney juniper up front, with lemon peel, coriander spice, and a clean herbal edge.
- Taste: Crisp and dry, with juniper at the centre, citrus zest around the edges, and a subtle rooty depth from angelica and liquorice.
- Finish: Clean, peppery, and refreshing, with the juniper hanging around just long enough to make another sip feel like a good idea.
If you’re building a G&T, keep it simple: plenty of ice, a good Indian tonic, and a lime wedge. That lime isn’t just decoration, it pulls out the citrus snap already hiding in the gin. Want something a little moodier? Tanqueray also makes a cracking Negroni because it has enough structure to stand up to Campari instead of politely vanishing into the glass.
This is a brilliant starting point if you’re trying to understand London Dry gin, because it shows the style clearly. London Dry doesn’t mean it has to be made in London. It means the flavour comes from botanicals distilled with the spirit, with no sweet flavouring added afterwards. Translation: cleaner, drier, more gin-like gin. Very technical, we know. But your drink will taste better for it.
Food-wise, take it toward salty, citrusy, and fresh. Think olives, salted crisps, lemony grilled prawns, or a simple goat cheese crostini. Basically, snacks that like a bright, cold drink next to them. It’s also a handy pick for low-effort home cocktails when you want something that feels intentional without turning your kitchen into a chemistry lab.
If you usually grab Hendrick’s for the soft cucumber thing, this is the sharper, more classic route. If Gordon’s is your familiar comfort zone, Tanqueray turns the juniper up and gives the whole drink more bite. It’s still friendly. It just has a backbone.
Fun Fact: Charles Tanqueray created his gin in 1830, and the brand’s famous four-botanical recipe has stayed deliberately simple ever since: juniper, coriander, angelica root, and liquorice. Sometimes the flex is knowing when to stop adding stuff.
