False Bay Pinotage 75cl

AED 46.00

Bold, smoky-fruity red that makes pizza night feel like a plan. This South African Pinotage brings that signature hit of dark berries and a little roasted, coffee-ish edge that keeps you going back for another sip. Medium-bodied, dry, and confidently savoury, it’s the kind of red wine that handles spicy BBQ, burgers, and weeknight pasta without getting lost. If you want a bottle with personality (not polite background noise), this one earns its spot.

Description

Big flavour, zero fuss. This South African Pinotage is the kind of red wine that shows up with dark fruit, a lightly smoky edge, and enough grip to make your next bite taste better.

  • Appearance: Deep ruby with a purple tint, looks rich in the glass and sets the mood fast.
  • Nose: Blackberry and plum up front, then a roasted, coffee-like note with a hint of earthy spice.
  • Taste: Dark berries, a touch of cocoa, and savoury, toasty flavours, dry with medium tannins that give it structure (so it doesn’t drink like grape juice).
  • Body: Medium-bodied, full of presence but still easy to drink.
  • Finish: Lingering berry and gentle smoke, the kind of aftertaste that makes you reach for food.

Pinotage is South Africa’s own thing, and that’s the point. It’s known for marrying ripe, dark fruit with a roasted, smoky character, which is exactly why it’s such a clutch red for big-flavoured meals. Think burgers, braai-style meats, peppery sausages, or anything with char. This bottle doesn’t get bullied by spice or grill marks, it leans in.

It’s also a great “I want something different” pick when you’re bored of the usual red-wine rotation. You still get familiar comfort, like blackberry and plum, but the savoury coffee and cocoa notes keep it interesting. One glass feels straightforward, the next starts showing layers.

Fun Fact: Pinotage was created in South Africa in 1925 by crossing Pinot Noir and Cinsault (once called “Hermitage”), and yes, the name is literally Pinot + (Herm)itage.
