Description

This is the kind of Chablis that makes you understand why people won’t shut up about Chablis. Fourchaume (a 1er Cru vineyard in Chablis) brings extra depth and energy, so you get all the classic bright, stony freshness, plus a little more weight and length that keeps the glass interesting.

La Chablisienne is a big deal in the region, a growers’ co-operative that focuses on getting the best out of Chablis’ chalky, fossil-rich soils. Translation, you’re here for razor-clean citrus, crunchy orchard fruit, and that signature flint-and-sea-spray vibe Chablis fans chase.

What you’re really buying is contrast. It’s brisk, but not thin. It’s mineral and savoury, but still juicy with fruit. If you like French white wine that feels refreshing and serious at the same time, this one lands.

  • Appearance: Pale straw with green highlights, bright and clear.
  • Nose: Lemon zest, green apple, pear skin, white flowers, wet stone, a hint of oyster shell.
  • Taste: Dry and zippy, citrus and tart apple up front, then a salty, flinty minerality with a clean, mouthwatering line of acidity.
  • Body: Medium-bodied, more presence than basic Chablis, still sharp and refreshing.
  • Finish: Long, stony, and lightly saline, it lingers like sea air.

When do you reach for it? Whenever you want a white wine that doesn’t get lost at the table. It’s a killer match for oysters, sushi, grilled prawns, roast chicken, creamy pasta (yes, really), or anything with lemon and herbs.

If you’re building a Burgundy lineup at home, Fourchaume is a smart move because it tastes like “grown-up Chablis” without needing a lecture to enjoy it. One sip and you’ll get the point.

Fun Fact: La Chablisienne was founded in 1923 by local growers, and it’s still built around pooling top vineyard parcels to make seriously consistent Chablis, including prized 1er Cru sites like Fourchaume.
