Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay 75Cl

AED 70.00

Full-bodied South African Chardonnay that leans into ripe stone fruit and a little vanilla warmth, the kind of white that makes roast chicken feel like a plan. Boschendal’s 1685 is an easy step up from basic Chardonnay, richer than Pinot Grigio and way more interesting than “just a white wine”!

Description

Ripe, satisfying, and properly comforting, this South African Chardonnay is for nights when you want your white wine to actually show up. Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay is a fuller-bodied style with that classic Chardonnay creaminess, balanced by enough freshness to keep you going back for another sip.

If you’ve ever found Sauvignon Blanc a bit too sharp, or Pinot Grigio a bit too… polite, this is a great next move. It’s the kind of bottle that feels instantly familiar, but still has layers, especially once it opens up in the glass.

  • Appearance: Bright golden straw, clear and glossy in the glass.
  • Nose: Ripe peach and yellow apple up front, with a soft vanilla and toasted oak vibe underneath.
  • Palate: Stone fruit and baked apple with a creamy texture, then a clean, citrusy lift that keeps it balanced.
  • Body: Medium to full-bodied, round and mouth-filling.
  • Finish: Medium-long, with lingering orchard fruit and a gentle, spicy oak echo.

Food pairing: Pour this with roast chicken and potatoes, creamy mushroom pasta, or grilled corn with a little chilli butter, it loves anything savoury and a bit rich.

What makes it a smart fridge staple is how flexible it is. It can do “nice dinner” energy, but it’s also very happy being your Tuesday-on-the-couch white. Chill it, pour it, and let it warm slightly in the glass, the flavour gets bigger and more textured as you go.

South Africa is seriously underrated for Chardonnay, and bottles like this are why. You get generous fruit, a comforting roundness, and enough structure to handle food without getting lost.

Bring it to a braai when you know everyone’s defaulting to beer, it’s an easy crowd-pleaser that still feels like you made a choice.

Fun Fact: The “1685” on the label is a nod to Boschendal’s founding year, the estate’s been part of the Cape winelands story for centuries.
