Description

Velvety, dark-fruited, and confidently Bordeaux, this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is the kind of French red wine you open when you want dinner to feel a little more “we’ve got our life together” than usual.

Saint-Émilion (on Bordeaux’s Right Bank) is famous for Merlot-driven reds that bring plush fruit and a softer, rounder feel than many Cabernet-heavy Bordeaux. This bottle leans into that style, generous on the palate, with enough grip to keep it serious and food-ready.

  • Appearance: Deep ruby with a darker core.
  • Nose: Ripe plum and blackberry, then cocoa, cedar, and a little dried herb.
  • Palate: Merlot-led dark fruit with a gentle, savoury edge, tannins that feel firm but not aggressive, and a dry, balanced finish.
  • Body: Medium to full-bodied.
  • Finish: Lingering dark fruit, a touch of spice, and that classic Bordeaux woodsy note.

Food pairing: This is made for roast lamb with rosemary, a peppery ribeye, or mushroom pasta with parmesan, basically anything that loves a red with structure.

Want the easiest way to enjoy it? Give it a bit of air in the glass while you’re cooking, it helps the fruit pop and the tannins settle into that “smooth enough, still serious” sweet spot.

If your usual pick is a big Malbec, this is a great next step: still packed with dark fruit, but with more savoury detail and a more “Bordeaux” backbone.

This is also a smart bottle to bring when you’re not sure what everyone drinks. It’s crowd-pleasing without being boring, and it’s got enough personality to make wine nerds nod along too.

Fun Fact: “Saint-Émilion Grand Cru” isn’t a grape or a marketing flourish, it’s a stricter level of the appellation with tighter rules than basic Saint-Émilion, which is why these wines tend to show more depth and staying power.
