Description

Bright cherry, a little dried herb, and enough grip to handle a proper meal, this Chianti Superiore is your go-to Tuscany red when you want something classic, not complicated.

  • Appearance: Clear ruby red that hints at freshness, not heaviness.
  • Nose: Sour cherry, red plum, dried oregano, and a whiff of cedar like an old wooden table at your favourite trattoria.
  • Palate: Dry and lively, with juicy red fruit up front, bright acidity that keeps it snappy, and firm, food-ready tannins.
  • Body: Medium-bodied, more agile than a big, sleepy red.
  • Finish: Clean, cherry-skin and spice linger, then it leaves you reaching for another bite.

Food pairing: This is money with spaghetti bolognese, wood-fired pizza, or roast chicken with rosemary and lemon.

If you usually grab Cabernet or Shiraz and want a red that plays nicer with food, Chianti is the move. You still get structure and depth, but with that Tuscan acidity that makes everything on the table taste sharper and more alive.

“Superiore” matters here because it’s a step up in intensity and concentration compared to everyday Chianti, meaning you get more flavour in the glass and more backbone at the table. Translation, it doesn’t disappear next to tomato sauce, parmesan, or grilled meats.

This is also a great “house red” candidate. Keep a bottle around for weeknight dinners, last-minute guests, and those nights when you want to feel like you cooked better than you actually did.

Give it a little air before you drink, even 10 minutes helps the cherry fruit and savoury notes show up properly. Slightly cool is the sweet spot.

Fun Fact: Banfi helped put modern Brunello on the map in Montalcino, then used that same know-how to make consistently solid, no-drama Tuscan reds like this Chianti.
